City Council <br />Study Session Summary <br />May 13, 2014 <br />Page 3 of 3 <br /> <br /> <br />Discussion ensued about the value of BAPs. <br /> <br />Update/Discussion Review of Retail Broker Roundtable: <br />Economic Development Director Aaron DeJong gave an overview of the Retail Broker <br />Roundtable. The roundtable, sponsored by the Business Retention and Development <br />(BRaD) Committee, was held on April 16, 2014. Nine Denver Metro brokers attended. <br /> <br />The major themes that emerged from the roundtable: <br /> Retailers are scaling down footprints <br /> Access and visibility is critical <br /> The US 36 corridor is overbuilt and I-25 is seeing big growth <br /> Louisville is not a regional draw; Westminster and Boulder are considered main <br />shopping areas <br /> Competition for retail is fierce <br />Incentives matter <br /> <br /> <br />There was a discussion of McCaslin area and that the commercial/office park needs to <br />be revitalized. need to build on the things that are <br />working and address the issues that exist. <br /> <br />The roundtable let the brokers know the City is a source of information so that if <br />someone is interested, the City can provide information. <br /> <br />Retention visits were emphasized. DeJong has already contacted and set up meetings <br />with big retailers at ICSC. <br /> <br />The broker roundtable presentation will be provided to groups working on the Small <br />Area Plans. <br /> <br />City Manager <br />City Manager Malcolm Fleming went over the Advanced Agenda and gave information <br />as requested on upcoming items. <br /> <br />Adjourn 9:57 pm <br />Submitted by Dawn Burgess <br />May 14, 2014 <br />
