• Sod will be used in the area between hole 15 and 16 instead of the seeded fescue originally
planned. This reduces cost and improves schedule.
• 3 greens have already been seeded and more have been prepared ready to seed. A mix of
Kentucky Blue Grass and Rye is being used.
• The prefabricated bridges should be delivered in the next 10 days. The location of the bridges
has been changed from their pre- existing position to move them out of the direct line of play.
• Significant amounts of sod are being used to repair damaged fairways - typically 4 truckloads
per hole.
• The irrigation system on the final 5 holes is complete (booster pump still being worked on) and
all main lines are in place on holes 4, 5, 6 and 7. Staking work is ready to start on holes 8, 11
and 12
• Re- contouring several fairways will provide a good long term fix to drainage issues.
• The substrate of all greens is being contoured to match the finished contour so that there will
be a uniform 12" layer of peat /sand mix over a 4" layer of rock for drainage.
• Many tee boxes have been made larger to avoid concentration of damage. Tee boxes are
laser levelled with a slope of no more than 1`)/0 and grass is seeded over a 4" cap of sand.
• The "common- sense" runoff improvements on holes 8 and 12 are in place.
Course Tour
• Work on holes 1, 2 & 3 has been limited so far so these holes were not viewed
• Hole 4: the realignment of the cart path will significantly improve the sightline from the tees
and the new back tees will pose a challenge for simian golfers. The bunkers by the green
have been reshaped and the rolled turf design is both attractive and maintenance - friendly
• Hole 5: trees have been removed to avoid shadowing the early morning eastern sun. The
bunker in front of the green has the rolled lip and the bunker behind the green is replaced by a
grassy swale. The green is contoured to allow a number of challenging pin placements with
an enticing funnel contour in front.
• Hole 6: the tees have been enlarged and trees removed to restore the original concept for the
hole. The cart path and bridge over the creek have been moved to the left to give a clear
sight -line for the second shot to the green.
• Hole 7: front bunker has been reshaped with rolled edges and small back right bunker
has been replaced with a grass collection area.
• Hole 8: the tees have been elevated to direct floodwater away from adjoining homes.
Scrub has been cleared allowing the banks of the Goodhue ditch to be re- contoured
and further protect homes. Opinions vary on the sentinel tree at the corner by the
green. The decision is to leave it in place and move the green somewhat to the left
providing a more visible target.
• Hole 9: City Staff have contacted the homeowner on the peninsula by the tee box to
advise them that the course will no longer maintain the ground adjoining their property
and granting them a revocable license to use and maintain it (irrigate, fertilize and
mow) without constructing permanent buildings. Similar contacts will be made to
other adjoining homeowners throughout the golf course.
3
