Historic Preservation Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />August 18, 2014 <br />Page 3 of 9 <br />Probable Cause Determination — 925 Jefferson <br />Watson introduced the item and asked the Board for any disclosures on the item. <br />Trice presented the staff information, stating the request is to determine if this building is <br />eligible for a building assessment grant. She added staff believes the architectural <br />detailing and the social history of a notable person makes this structure eligible for <br />landmarking. She stated staff recommends approval for the building assessment grant. <br />Betty Schulte, property owner, stated she is interested in the building assessment to <br />see what the integrity of the structure is and learn more about the integrity of the <br />structure. <br />Echohawk stated she is excited about the social history. <br />Fasick informed the Board about the subcommittee meeting and the discussion about <br />changing out the windows. She stated the subcommittee agreed with the removal of <br />the windows for an in -kind replacement. <br />Watson stated eh would like to understand more about the windows and offered to work <br />with the applicant on the replacement of the windows. <br />Stewart stated he believes this structure would qualify for a local landmark and made a <br />motion to approve the determination or probable cause. <br />Request was approved by voice vote. <br />Probable Cause Determination — 816 Main <br />Watson asked the Board for any disclosures on the item <br />Robinson presented staffs report and stated the request is for a structural assessment <br />of the existing Empire Sign. <br />Watson asked for comments from the Board. <br />Fasick stated she is excited for the project and believes the period of significance is the <br />1950's. <br />Stewart stated he was on the subcommittee which reviewed the original window <br />replacement. He stated the window replacement was very successful. <br />Echohawk believes the sign is a great representative of a "Googie" style, which is <br />indicative of the 1950's, and she is excited it is located in Louisville. <br />Haley stated she is excited to see it landmarked as well and believes there is probable <br />cause for the assessment. <br />Watson stated he thought it was interested in the fact the existing building is one of the <br />oldest buildings in town. <br />
