Business Retention & Development Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />August 4, 2014 <br />Page 2 of 4 <br />Randy Caranci gave an update on the progress of the Grain Elevator project. He said the PUD <br />is on the agenda for the August 5, 2014 City Council meeting. He said the project has had many <br />favorable reviews and comments. <br />ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT GOALS AND BUDGET ITEMS: <br />Economic Development Director Aaron DeJong presented budget requests related to 2015 <br />Economic Development (ED) goals: <br />Continue to facilitate redevelopment of the Urban Renewal Area: <br />ED did not request any additional resources to advance this goal. These goals are <br />funded by the Louisville Revitalization Committee. There are no budget adding items for <br />this for 2015. <br />Facilitate occupancy or redevelopment of former Sam's Club and adjacent areas: <br />Council will decide if we are moving toward Urban Renewal for this area. ED is <br />requesting budget for consulting or staff services for establishing an Urban Renewal Area. <br />Adopt and implement a plan to increase Downtown parking: <br />ED is requesting <br />• Funding to research the feasibility of a parking structure <br />• Funding to hire a parking consultant to analyze data collected by the Planning <br />Department's Parking Study, review and comment on Parking Task Force <br />recommendations, conduct additional analysis as necessary. City Manager <br />Fleming worked closely with DeJong but they feel they need an expert in parking <br />who understand parking in small towns in order to successfully address the <br />problem. <br />• Commissioner Menaker commented that parking should be a community values <br />goal. He said it is important to know that the parking issue will cost money to solve <br />and can be a catalyst for development. <br />Improve business retention and recruitment activities: <br />ED is requesting: <br />• Increases in budget to bolster the Business Development Program such as <br />participation in Metro Denver Site Selector's Conference, Retail Leakage Report, <br />networking opportunities, enhanced groundbreaking events /ribbon cuttings. <br />• Increase for advertising /marketing activities such as greater participation in <br />Louisville Chamber events <br />• Increase in printing budget for creation of profession marketing documents <br />• Increase in membership dues to participate in Commercial Brokers of Boulder <br />group. <br />• Increase in travel budget to attend conferences and other business development <br />events. <br />Commissioner Lathrop said retention visits have decreased. He feels they are well received. <br />
