L City at - Louisville COLORADO • SINCE 1878 CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA ITEM 1 SUBJECT: DATE: ANNUAL REPORT - OPEN SPACE ADVISORY BOARD SEPTEMBER 23, 2014 PRESENTED BY: CITY OF LOUISVILLE OPEN SPACE ADVISORY BOARD MEMBERS: HELEN MOSHAK, LAURA SCOTT DENTON, MICHAEL SHANTZ, CHRISTOPHER SMITH AND TOM DAVINROY LIST HIGHLIGHTS AND SUCCESSES OF THE PAST YEAR: • Began process of providing input to CIP and Operations budgets • Initiated Public Input process of New Trails Planning • Hosted 10 New Trails Open Houses including presentations to other boards and to the public at the library and recreation center • Advocated for more information on details of Open Space budgeting and spending in the Conservation Trust Fund • Preliminary review of Conservation Trust Open Space & Parks Fund spending and benchmarking of expenditures for Open Space acquisition and operations • Review the 2004 Open Space Master Plan to prepare for the 2016 capital improvement project to revise the plan • Supported volunteer programs (202 OSAB hours out of 800 total) • Posting on "Fans of Louisville Open Space" Facebook page • Brainstormed education and volunteer opportunities • Advocated to Staff & City Council that the Budget for a Wayfinding Program be Prioritized for 2013 • Provided a Monthly Forum to Receive Citizen Input • Attended the Open Space Alliance Annual Conference • Board Members Attended & Advocated for Education & Outreach Events (details in Attachment 2) • OSAB reviewed & made recommendations regarding Program Operations topics (details in Attachment 2) • Contributed to draft Coyote Management Plan WHAT WORKED WELL FOR YOUR BOARD THIS PAST YEAR? • Emily Jasiak and Jeff Lipton as council liaisons • Transition of board members and officers • Collaboration with Ember Brignull and Joe Stevens • Catherine Jepson's work as interim staff liaison CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION 2
