SUBJECT: OSAB ANNUAL REPORT <br />DATE: SEPTEMBER 23, 2014 <br />PAGE 2 OF 5 <br />WHAT DID NOT WORK WELL FOR YOUR BOARD THIS PAST YEAR? <br />• Inadequate time /materials to prepare for recommendation on land swap <br />• Process for providing input on acquisitions <br />• Transparency of Conservation Fund Open Space expenditures <br />LIST PLANS /GOALS FOR NEXT YEAR: <br />• Pilot wayfinding project design and implementation in 2014 -2015 <br />• Review the 2004 Open Space Master Plan to prepare for the 2016 capital <br />improvement project to revise the plan <br />• 2015 CIP Planning, e.g., <br />o Trail Recommendations <br />o Phase II Wayfinding <br />o Interpretive Kiosks <br />o Vault toilets <br />o Hecla Floating Island <br />• Input on acquisition decisions and Conservation Fund priorities <br />• Benchmarking of expenditures for Open Space acquisition and operations <br />• Joint meetings with neighboring Open Space Boards <br />• Joint meeting with appropriate City board(s) to discuss McCaslin/Washington <br />Underpass Art <br />• Support of proactive approach to acquisitions (options for right of first refusal or, <br />outreach, etc.) and establishing conservation easements <br />• Support of wildlife management plans and <br />the development of resource monitoring plans and inventory protocols <br />(flora /fauna). <br />updating existing studies: Bird Monitoring, Flora Monitoring in Prairie Dog <br />Colonies etc. <br />• Collaboration with CU faculty /students on Use Survey <br />• Support of expanding education programs (coyotes, etc.) <br />• Partnership with Police for Open Space code enforcement <br />• Finalizing and implementing Coyote Management Plan <br />WHAT IS YOUR BOARD'S MISSION STATEMENT AND DO YOU THINK IT NEEDS <br />ANY UPDATING OR CHANGING: <br />Open Space Mission: To conserve and restore Open Space through land acquisition <br />and management for the protection of natural and cultural resources and provide <br />opportunities for education, volunteering and appropriate passive recreation. <br />Open Space Vision: An Open Space program funded for future generations that <br />enriches the experience of living in Louisville by providing opportunities for citizens to <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />3 <br />
