CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS WEEK PROCLAMATION
NOVEMBER 2ND - 8TH, 2014
WHEREAS:
WHEREAS:
WHEREAS:
WHEREAS:
Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among U.S.
children between infancy and age 15. This tragic disease is detected in
more than 15,000 of our country's young people each and every year;
and
One in five of our nation's children loses his or her battle with cancer.
Many infants, children and teens will suffer from long -term effects of
comprehensive treatment, including secondary cancers; and
Critical research has led to real progress in the fight against pediatric
cancer. Improvements in treatment and increased participation in clinical
trials have helped decrease mortality rates for many types of childhood
cancer by more than 50 percent over the past 30 years. These gains
remind us of the importance of supporting scientific advances and give us
hope for a future free from cancer in all its forms.
The determination and bravery with which these children fight their battles
against cancer should be recognized and commended by all; and;
WHEREAS: It is vital that those affected by childhood cancer have the encouragement
of loved ones, our community, researchers, health care providers and
advocates who support them as progress is made toward a tomorrow
where all children are able to pursue their full measure of happiness
without the burden of cancer.
NOW, THEREFORE I, Robert P. Muckle as Mayor of the City of Louisville do hereby proclaim
the week of November 2nd through November 8th, 2014 as CHILDHOOD CANCER
AWARENESS WEEK and encourage all citizens to honor childhood cancer patients, survivors,
their families and caregivers and those young people who have lost their lives to this
devastating disease.
DATED this
Signed
of November 2014
LuY
Robert P. Muckle
Attest:
t
Nancy Varra, City Clerk
