6. Staff Report:
David Dean provided an update on the renovation status as follows:
• Hole #1: green has been seeded with a sod surround and is now covered, the tee
box is being leveled in preparation for sodding and seeding
• Holes #2 and #3: the tee box surrounds have been sodded and the tee boxes are
ready to seed
• Grass is growing well on most fairways although, on hole #8, the seed was partially
washed away by the heavy rain and the fairway will have to be re- seeded. Hole
#10 was seeded a week later than #8 and the grass there has germinated well.
• Hole # 9: the green is seeded and covered
• Hole #10: the tee boxes have been rough contoured but will not be finished until
the bridge is in place. The bridge on hole #10 will be positioned on Oct 28 followed
by the bridge on hole #17. Since the bridge on hole #6 has to be moved a
significant distance over completed fairway work, it may not be put in position until
the ground freezes. Sandy Stewart questioned why there were no signs that
abutments for the bridges had been constructed. It is possible that the abutments
are part of the prefabricated bridge structures.
• The irrigation system is complete on the practice green and on the punchbowl
green. No gravel underlayer will be used on the punchbowl, the green will be
seeded over a 6" layer of sand. When seeded, the punchbowl green will be
covered.
• If the grass on any green is well established, covers will not be used. The covers
are made from a permeable woven material allowing the grass to breathe and also
allowing watering with the covers in place. The green on hole #15 has some bare
areas and may need to be reseeded and covered.
• Fungicide may be used on greens #1, 2, 3, 9 and 13 since the covers keep the
greens moist allowing for fungus growth.
• The fairway on hole #14 is ready to be shaped. Excess dirt from the driving range
will be dumped on this fairway to compensate for the rocky base.
• Irrigation work on the driving range is almost complete.
• Many irrigation valves are malfunctioning due to defective solenoids. All will be
replaced under warranty from Rainbird.
• John Reilly asked about the algae growth on the pond on #11. This was treated
with an organic algaecide with little effect, copper sulfate may be needed if the
algae does not diminish with colder weather. John also asked who is responsible
for maintenance of the strip between the ponds and the homes. The intent was to
plant this with low- maintenance grass but at present, only weeds are growing.
• Tree planting on the berm between hole #16 and HVVY 36 will start in two weeks.
3
