MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
Continued from page 1
rent services or helping to maintain our assets. We plan to add
both an adult and a children's Librarian to meet the very high
demand for library services. We plan to hire a part time Open
Space Ranger to help educate users of our open spaces regard-
ing the rules governing open space and the reasons for these
rules. This is a part of our efforts to pass on our open spaces to
future generations in good condition. Along these same lines,
the museum has a significant number of historic artifacts that
we have been unable to adequately catalog, maintain and
display due to limited staff, and we will hire both a summer
intern and a full -time staff member to help in this effort. We
will also hire a Maintenance Technician to increase proactive
maintenance on both water treatment and building facilities.
Finally, we will hire an Arborist Technicain to help manage
and maintain the more than 10,000 trees in the City's urban
forest and to mitigate the Emerald Ash Borer's expected im-
pact. The hiring will be spread through the year to hire people
in the season we need them, and to allow the City Council to
assess revenues before additional hiring occurs.
In 1915, Louisville Town Marshal, Victor Helburg, was
killed in the line of duty, thankfully the only Louisville law
enforcement officer to have fallen. The City, and a group of
private citizens, is creating a Fallen Officers Memorial in his
honor for the 100th anniversary of his death. We hope that
this memorial will also honor all those who have served and
protected the citizens of Louisville for the last 136 years.
I am always looking for ways to improve communications
and make sure residents get information they need about
events, services and future plans. Surveys have shown that
most citizens find this Community Update newsletter to be
their best source of this information. During the Recession we
scaled back publication to three times per year as a cost saving
measure. We plan to expand public outreach next year by
increasing the newsletter to four times per year and rolling out
an improved web site.
On the subject of public outreach, we have begun, and
will spend much of 2015 completing a small area planning
processes for South Boulder Road and for the McCaslin cor-
ridor. If you are not already participating in this process, I
urge you to get involved. Check the City web site or call the
Planning Department for information.
Next year will be a big year with the completion of the
new McCaslin interchange, the Davidson Mesa underpass
under US 36, completion of the new city services building,
and the beginning of our wastewater treatment plant replace-
ment to meet new federal water quality standards. All of this
is a lot of work, but like an election it is worth it, to serve the
residents of Louisville and together keep Louisville a great
place to live.
-Bob
SOUTH BOULDER ROAD
SMALL AREA PLAN
The South Boulder Road Small Area Plan is underway.
Thank you to all of you who attended the kick -off
meeting and have contributed on www.EnvisionLouisvil-
IeCO.gov. We have had great attendance and received many
comments. We are well on our way to understanding the
community's vision and goals for the South Boulder Road
area. We are working to transform those goals into develop-
ment regulations that would define allowed land uses and
building forms, and identify desired infrastructure improve-
ments, including areas for public spaces like parks and plazas.
The next general public meeting will be held in Febru-
ary. At that meeting, the public will help develop alternative
potential scenarios for the corridor. You may also continue to
contribute comments on www.EnvisionLouisvilleCO.com,
attend public hearings before Planning Commission and City
Council, or contact the project manager, Scott Robinson, at
303 - 335 -4596 or ScottR @LouisvilleCO.gov.
The McCaslin Blvd Small Area Plan will have its kick-
off meeting in February and information on the wayfinding
program will be included in upcoming meetings as well.
Also please check your mail in the coming months as the
City will be mailing out surveys asking you what your vision
is for both corridors. If you receive one please complete it and
return it. We want to hear from you, so please participate.
CULTURAL ARTS MASTER PLAN
Take an active role in shaping the future arts and
cultural offerings in Louisville by participating in a
City-wide Cultural Arts Master Plan. Staff is working closely
with the Louisville Cultural Council (LCC), community arts
organizations, creative professionals, businesses and residents
on this project. We need your feedback to develop a plan to
guide the community vision for culture and creative industries
in Louisville. The intention is to:
• Identify the available local arts and cultural facilities;
• Identify existing programming;
• Identify gaps in facilities, programming and resources;
• Assess the economic impact of the creative industries;
• Create a data - driven, actionable framework to guide arts
and culture for future generations
Public surveys are available at LCC and other community
events, and will be available on -line December 5, 2015. The
first public meetings will be held Tuesday, January 20, and
Saturday, January 24, 10:00 - 11:30 AM at the Louisville
Center for the Arts.
For more information, please contact Suzanne Janssen
(303.335.4581 or Suzanne) @LouisvilleCO.gov.)
Winter 2014
