FREE! GALE COURSES <br />The Louisville Public Library is offering Gale Courses, <br />part of Cengage Learning. Through this unique <br />program, Library users can access instructor -led, online <br />courses through the Louisville Public Library web site —free <br />of charge. Courses run for six weeks, with two new lessons <br />released weekly, and new sessions begin every month. Using a <br />valid Louisville Library card, users can enroll and participate <br />in courses from Library computers or remotely. There are <br />hundreds of instructor -led, online courses covering everything <br />from technology and business to health and wellness, creative <br />writing, and SAT /ACT test preparation. <br />BUSINESS RESOURCES <br />ReferenceUSA, an electronic research tool offered by <br />the Library, has recently expanded the search capabili- <br />ties available to Library users. Whether you're a start -up or <br />an established business, this tool can identify consumer and <br />business data that is essential to growing your business. Learn <br />about new residents and new businesses, jobs and internships, <br />and consumer lifestyle data. Classes will be offered — starting <br />in the first quarter of 2015 —to help you learn how to take <br />advantage of this powerful tool. Watch the Library calendar of <br />events, or call the Reference Desk (303.335.4820) to request <br />email notification of upcoming classes. <br />PAY LIBRARY FEES ONLINE <br />Coming soon! Louisville Library patrons will be able to <br />pay fees on their library accounts via the Library web <br />site. Just log in to your account and look for the Pay Now <br />button and you will be directed to a page that will allow you <br />to enter your credit card information. This service is currently <br />scheduled to be up and running by the end of 2014. <br />WHAT OTHER BOOKS MIGHT I LIKE? <br />Do you need something to read while you wait for <br />your hold on a current best seller? Are you look- <br />ing for more books by your favorite author, or want to find <br />similar authors? Not sure of the next book in the series you're <br />reading? If so, give NoveList a try. This online resource can <br />help you find your next favorite book. Just enter some infor- <br />mation about what you're looking for, and NoveList will come <br />up with suggestions. You'll find NoveList, and NoveList K -8 <br />for young readers, on the Library's website under Research. <br />HOLIDAY PROGRAMS <br />LIBRARY OPEN HOUSE AND MUSIC BY TUTTI QUINTET <br />Friday, December 5 3 - 4 PM <br />Please join us for this annual holiday tradition and enjoy <br />cookies, cider, and some lovely recorder music performed by <br />the ensemble group, Tutti. It's a great way to get in the spirit <br />for the Parade of Lights! <br />CELTIC CAROLS PRESENTED BY JERRY BARLOW <br />Sunday, December 14 ❖ 2:30 PM <br />A fingerstyle guitarist and storyteller, Jerry shares the sto- <br />ries and history behind the music he shares. All ages will enjoy <br />the afternoon's offerings. <br />POLAR EXPRESS PARTY <br />Tuesday, December 16 6pm <br />Children age 3 -8 and caregivers are invited to come listen <br />to a reading of Chris Van Allsburg's The Polar Express. We <br />will have hot chocolate and make a bell to take home. Check the website <br />or Facebook for more detailed information. <br />MUSEUM EVENTS <br />KEEPING THE PEACE IN LOUISVILLE, 1914 - 1915. <br />Thursday, December 4 ❖ Noon - 1pm <br />The program focuses on the eight months when federal <br />troops from the 12th Cavalry in Fort Robinson, <br />Nebraska were stationed in Louisville to maintain order fol- <br />lowing the coal strike wars of April 1914. What was this like <br />for the soldiers...and for the residents? Join Museum Coordi- <br />nator Bridget Bacon to learn about this fascinating time, and <br />feel free to bring your lunch! <br />NEW PROJECT ROOM <br />Thank you for your patience as we constructed our <br />new project room on the second floor of the Library. <br />Watch for upcoming instructional and creative events to be <br />held in the room.
