Christopher seconded. The motion was passed unanimously and the minutes
will be changed to reflect this correction.

V. Discussion Item: Citizen Proposed Educational Opportunity for Lake Park
Open Space & Potential Renaming. Presented by: Becky Harney
Becky Harney’s letter is on page 10 of the meeting packet, and she presented the gist of
her letter to the board. Evelyn Harney Chatilly of Golden, CO, another Harney family
member, was also present. Their family’s hope is to have the pond at Lake Park named
“Harney Pond.” She presented the history of the Louisville property that the Harney
family owned and farmed. The family dug the pond at Lake Park for agricultural
irrigation. Becky felt that naming the pond “the Harney Pond” would fulfill the City’s
stated Community Core Value of “connecting to the City’s heritage.” They visualize an
educational sign at the site, such as a stone marker, telling the pond’s agricultural history
and naming it Harney Pond. Evelyn felt like the timing of renaming the pond might be
ideal, since the signs on city Open Space are all being re-done. She also mentioned that
informally, local folks always called it Harney Pond. Laura asked for clarification
whether the intension was to name the pond alone or to rename the entire Lake Park
property itself, and whether the pond itself even has a formal name.
