Historical Commission
Minutes
January 7, 2015
Page 2 of 4

VIII. Approval of 2015 Meeting Dates & Locations
LHC members discussed and approved the proposed meeting schedule for 2015 that was
included with the meeting packet, which is to meet at 6:30 PM on the first Wednesday of
each odd-numbered month in the first floor meeting room of the Louisville Public Library.

IX. Discussion/Direction/Action on Acme Mine interpretive sign – The LHC is supposed
to review and comment on the language for an interpretive sign for the Acme Mine
site. The Planning Dept. staff requested that this be tabled until the March 2015
meeting.

X. Report from the Director of Library & Museum Services
Beth Barrett reported:

A. Megan Huelman, the Museum intern, finished a strong year. Funds in the City
budget will allow her to continue to work several hours a week as an intern for now.
This summer there will be a 20-hour position for a Museum Tech to help with
cataloging and scanning of photos and documents.
B. The City debuted a new website, which will include the Library site.
C. New shelving for copies of the Louisville Times, 1942-2007, has arrived and will be
installed in a non-public use area. The papers are fragile, so other strategies for
accessing this archive are being considered.
D. The final visitor numbers for 2014 show an increase of 23% over visitor numbers
for 2013. A total of 2,881 people came through the Museum in 2014.

XI. Report from the Museum Coordinator:

A. Approval of Deeds of Gifts from Donors

The Commission voted to accept the following 5 donations:

1. From Don Buffo, a made-up composite of the LHS Class of 1960 (the Class of
1960 did not have a composite picture, so Don put one together with
individual photos of his classmates);
2. From Chuck Waneka; a copy of a soldier’s book from Sgt. Ahern, one of the
Federal troops stationed in Louisville during the mine riot in 1914, that was
given to his mother;
3. From David Wyman, two framed certificates, one from 1946 and the other a
list of “life members” from the Louisville VFW Post that was closed in July
2014;
4.
