Fundraising and plans for the Victor Helburg Memorial are proceeding. It is
now an “official” city project, and there will be funding and more involvement
from the City for this small park that will go on City property by the Police
Station. The design of the memorial is based on a design from a volunteer
architect. The Memorial committee hopes to have a groundbreaking
ceremony on Arbor Day, with a dedication planned for October at around the
time of the 100th Anniversary of Helburg’s death.
3. Anne Robinson and Bridget Bacon are revising the brochure used with the
self-guided downtown walking tours. The current brochure dates from the
early 1990’s.
4. Betty Scarpella and Julie VanLaanen will do a tour of the Museum with
Bridget to familiarize the new LHC members with the Museum collection.
5. The LHC needs two representatives from the LHC to attend one meeting for
the Wayfinding Task Force on January 14th. Paula Elrod and Betty Scarpella
volunteered to represent the LHC.
6. City Council has asked for a Museum Master Plan to be developed and
finalized in 2015. A main element of the Master Plan will consist of the needs
assessment report already completed by Metcalfe re: the new Museum
campus/building as well as an interpretive plan to be written by Bridget as the
Museum staff member. In addition, Bridget and Beth will seek to include a
business plan, recommended by Metcalfe, written for the site. A business plan
would include a plan for operations and revenue generation.

XII. Chairperson’s Report – None.

XIII. Update on Needs Assessment Process

A. The final Museum needs assessment report from Metcalfe Architecture & Design
received favorable reactions from the City Council. Chris Leh noted that the Council
was “very impressed.” The estimated cost for the project is $3.5 million. There is a
link on the Museum website to the Metcalfe report.
B.
