Spring 2015 2
Small area PlanS
South Boulder rd & mccaSlin Blvd
We have many additional projects underway at the mo-
ment, flood related and otherwise, which will also open this
year. The first phase of the US 36 Express Lanes project is
expected to be open mid-summer, which will make driving to
Denver a much nicer experience. Phase 2 from Louisville to
Boulder is well underway and should open in early 2016. The
McCaslin Interchange is in the worst part of its reconstruction
at the moment, but should be done by the end of the year.
Reconstruction of the County Road bridge, which com-
pletely washed out during the flooding, is making slow
progress. Importantly, we finally have agreement from the
State and Federal agencies that had to approve the replace-
ment bridge. We are currently in the final design phase and
hope to begin construction this fall. To the residents who have
expressed their frustration to me about the length of time this
bridge has been out, I can only promise that we are doing all
we can to remove the obstacles and get it done.
If you've lived in Louisville more than a few years, you
will have seen the many changes around town. Some of these
have been very good--downtown businesses have benefited
from the outdoor patios, our festival events are very popular,
and we have a new, organic grocery store. Some of this success
has had a down side as well--trouble finding a parking place
downtown, crowding in some of our schools, and traffic on
our roads. We are working on several fronts to address these
concerns. We recently met with the Boulder Valley School
Board to talk about long-term plans regarding school capaci-
ties. I hope this meeting gave families some more certainty
about the District's plans to address school crowding.
We are diligently working to create more parking spaces in
downtown in advance of this summer, and the City recently
acquired land in the urban renewal area for future parking.
We are working on a number of traffic issues, including the
installation of traffic signals at Highway 42 and Paschal Drive
and at St. Andrews Lane at Dillon Road.
Many of the issues above will be addressed in one of our
current long-term planning projects. We are in the midst of
a Small Area Plan for the future of the South Boulder Road
Corridor and have just started work on the Small Area Plan
for the McCaslin Boulevard corridor. We are also working on
a Historic Preservation Master Plan. The success of all of these
projects is dependent on you, the Louisville residents, com-
ing to the meetings and being sure your voice is heard. Please
check the web site for upcoming meetings.
I hope to see you all out on the Louisville trails soon.
However you feel about golf--don't let it spoil a good walk. -Bob
meSSage from the mayor
Continued from page 1
The City’s Small Area Plans for the South Boulder
Road corridor and McCaslin Boulevard area are
underway. The plans need public input to identify the
community’s vision and goals for each area and trans-
form those visions and goals into development regula-
tions. These regulations will include allowed land uses
and building forms, as well as desired infrastructure
improvements and areas for public spaces like parks and
plazas. Thank you to those who have participated in the
process so far and to those participating by visiting www.
EnvisionLouisvilleCO.com.
Keep an eye out for upcoming public meetings to
design potential development alternatives for the Mc-
Caslin Boulevard corridor and evaluate development
alternatives for the South Boulder Road corridor. There
will also be several more hearings before the Planning
Commission and the City Council.
You can stay up to date by following the Planning
Department on Twitter @Plan4Loco. Any questions
or comments can be directed to project manager Scott
Robinson (303.335.4596 or ScottR@LouisvilleCO.gov).
We want to hear from you, so please participate!!
Boulder county
emergency alert Program
Do you know how to register for the Boulder
County emergency alert system? Public safety
agencies throughout the county use a joint emer-
gency notification system. This system allows residents
throughout the county to be notified of an emergency
situation in a variety of ways.
You will receive time-sensitive messages wherever
you specify, such as your home, cell, or business phone,
email, text messages, hearing impaired receiving devices,
and more. You pick where, you pick how.
To register, please visit the Boulder Office of Emer-
gency Management web site: www.BoulderOEM.org.
