Date: December 6, 2015 <br />Musicians: Conor Brown, Clarinetist and Guests <br />About the Artist: <br />Conor Brown is a composer, clarinetist, and producer from Boulder, Colorado. His music is <br />motivated by the sweeping prairies, big sky, and jagged peaks of his native State. His <br />compositions often feature complex, driving rhythms, sustained tension, and colorful <br />ornamentation inspired by folk music from around the world. Conor has had works <br />commissioned by the Albany Symphony Orchestra and the Albany Symphony's groundbreaking <br />amplified chamber orchestra Dogs of Desire. Clarinet virtuoso David Krakauer premiered <br />Conor's Clarinet Concerto with the American Symphony Orchestra. Conor's ambitious <br />composition Scrolls was premiered by Contemporaneous, a New York -based chamber orchestra <br />that has also featured him as a concerto soloist. As part of the Carnegie Hall Professional Training <br />Workshop Exploring Klezmer, Conor performed as a clarinetist and as a sampling / laptop <br />artist. Conor's Wordless Music Series performance of Osvaldo Golijov's The Dreams and Prayers <br />of Isaac the Blind was featured on New York City radio station WNYC. He has also performed as <br />the guest principal clarinetist of the American Symphony Orchestra. Conor holds a B.A. in dance <br />and a B.M. in music composition from Bard College and the Bard College Conservatory of <br />Music. He has studied composition with Joan Tower, John Halle, and George Tsontakis, and <br />clarinet with David Krakauer, Laura Flax, and Daniel Silver. Conor also has many credits as a <br />freelance record producer and audio engineer. <br />Program: <br />Pero Teodosijev - Macedonian Folk Songs (Pero is an incredible Macedonian composer who lives <br />in Denver.) <br />Conor Brown - Clarinet Concerto (inspired by Klezmer and Macedonian clarinet styles.) <br />Joan Tower - A Little Gift <br />Wayne Siegel - Sound Patterns (a wonderful, driving piece by an American - Danish composer.) <br />Conor Brown - a couple of short pieces for solo piano <br />Selections by Colorado -based composers <br />
