Summer 2015 2
Small area PlanS
South Boulder rd & mccaSlin Blvd
ville. In The Buried Giant one of the things Ishiguro suggests
is that personal relationships may be the key to resolving
conflict and maintaining peace. I really appreciate how hard
Louisville police work to build relationships in the commu-
nity. Their focus on keeping the peace, as much as enforcing
the law, is one of the things that makes Louisville such a great
place to live. While it is very important that we recognize
Marshall Helburg with our new memorial I hope it will also
serve to honor the officers that put themselves in harm’s way
every day to keep us all safe. If you’d like to contribute to the
memorial, please go to helburgmemorial.org for more infor-
mation on how to donate.
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone out at all our great
events this summer! -Bob
meSSage from the mayor
Continued from page 1
The City’s small area plans for South Boulder Road
and McCaslin Boulevard continue. The process is
using public input to identify the community’s vision
and goals for each area and transforming those visions
and goals into future development regulations. The
regulations will include allowed land uses and building
forms, as well as desired infrastructure improvements
and areas for public spaces like parks and plazas.
Thank you to those who have participated in the pro-
cess so far; anyone can join in by visiting www.Envision-
LouisvilleCO.com. Also, keep an eye out for upcoming
public meetings to design potential development alter-
natives for the McCaslin Blvd. corridor and evaluate
development alternatives for the South Boulder Road
corridor. There will also be several more hearings before
the Planning Commission and the City Council.
You can stay up to date by following the Planning
Department on twitter @Plan4LsvlCO. Questions or
comments should be directed to project manager Scott
Robinson, at 303.335.4596 or ScottR@LouisvilleCO.
gov. We want to hear from you, so please participate.
city-wide preservation master plan
The City is developing a City-wide Preservation Master
Plan for its historic preservation program. The City
has a unique preservation program supported by a dedicated
sales tax that has resulted in over 20 historic landmarks. How-
ever, the City has never adopted a preservation master plan
to guide the program. The 2013 Comprehensive Plan update
called for the creation of such a plan to define the goals of the
preservation program and map out how to achieve them.
The City is interested in properly recognizing Louisville
History through preservation, analyzing current historic
preservation regulations, and engaging the community regard-
ing the future of historic preservation. During the process of
developing the Preservation Master Plan, Louisville residents
have been asked to define a community vision, respond to
questions about the existing preservation program, and out-
line goals for historic preservation. The City is working with
historic preservation consultant HistoryMatters for an exter-
nal review of the program and guidance on best practices. The
Preservation Master Plan will be reviewed and considered for
adoption by the City Council during the summer of 2015.
Please check the City of Louisville web site for an updated
Preservation Master Plan schedule.
For more information, please contact Lauren Trice at
303.335.4594 or LaurenT@LouisvilleCO.com.
cultural artS maSter Plan
Information gathering for the
Cultural Arts Master Plan
(CAMP) took place over the win-
ter and spring and is now wind-
ing down. The Louisville Cul-
tural Council, City staff and the
CAMP Steering Committee will
work over the summer months to
develop a comprehensive plan for
the future support and develop-
ment of Louisville’s creative sector.
Questions or comments should
be directed to project manager
Suzanne Janssen, at SuzanneJ@LouisvilleCO.gov or
303.335.4581.
