Sackett stated that it is still his position that he is against Ordinance #987, but feels that some of the integrity of the democratic process has been hurt by animosity. Mohr stated that he agrees with Sackett's comments with regard to the democratic process and pointed out to Mr. Adams that Council is elected to represent their constituents in Louisville by the democratic process and by setting a referendum is not preventing citizen's rights, but, in fact, ensuring them. "We were elected to do exactly that, and that is exactly what we did." Mohr moved that Council adopt Resolution #16, Series 1989, and set the election for August 1, 1989." Ferrera seconded. By Roll Call Vote, Resolution #16, Series 1989 was adopted 7-0. PUBLIC COMMENTS Barbara Jones, 526 W. Hackberry and co- petitioner, stated that Council has claimed that their group is bringing this action therefore costing the City more money. Ms. Jones stated that those claims are not true stating that if Council had allowed the referendum to go through the 15-day extension, there would have been a November election and would not have cost the special election costs. COUNCIL COMMENTS Mayor Fauson presented Councilman Anderson with a trophy won at the CML golf tournament in Breckenridge for "closest to the pin." Mohr congratulated Mayor Fauson on his newly elected position to the CML Board as president; he was unanimously voted into office and is this City's second representative to hold this position as CML president. Mayor Fauson stated that he feels very honored to be in this position and enjoys the recognition that this will bring to the City of Louisville. ADJOURNMENT With no further business, Mayor Fauson moved with- out objection to adjourn the meeting at 8:20 p.m. 6
