Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
April 27, 2015
Stewart stated he has spoken with the applicant in the past and will recuse
himself from this item.
Trice gave a presentation of the information provided in the packet. The
Beretta Family lived in this house for 24 years. Then the Milano Family
lived in the house for 48 years. She then went into details of the
architectural details. She believes the social history is strong and the house
has architectural significance. She believes there is probably cause for
landmarking.
Watson asked if the owners would like to speak. The applicants were not in
attendance.
No one in the public spoke against it.
Watson asked for commission comments.
Echohawk believes the structure could be eligible. \Fahey made a motion to
approve the probable cause.
Haley seconded the motion.
Koertje asked for a friendly amendment to provide findings for the approval.
He stated it meets the 50 year requirement, there is architectural integrity,
social significance, and one of a dwindling number of its built era.
Watson added the state would accept it as a Louisville local landmark.
The friendly amendments were accepted.
Motion approved by roll call 6 to 0.
Stewart re- entered the room.
Public Hearing — 1309 Jefferson Avenue Demolition
Trice presented the staff report. She stated the house was owned by the
Schmidt family for over 60 years. The house was built in 1954. The
property was taken through the subcommittee process and the
subcommittee called it up to a public hearing because they believe the
house has probable cause to believe the property may be eligible for
designation as a landmark. Staff recommends a full 180 day stay so the
applicant may work with HPC regarding alternative uses other than
demolition.
