Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
April 27, 2015
Fahey stated her purpose was to put the code and ordinances in more of a
layman's terms. She believes it would give us more focus at our meetings.
Koertje stated there are times at our meetings where we release 3
demolition permits, which wouldn't follow the focus of our mission
statement.
Haley stated the outreach perspective would benefit from a mission
statement because passerby's can read what we do. It is more marketing
than anything so people can see who we are and what we do.
Echohwak said another reason is we all have our words for what we do.
She doesn't see it as a guiding force, more of a "one sentence elevator
speech ".
Fasick asked what happens if we lose the HPF fund. She asked if that
should be kept in the mission statement.
Watson stated the architectural component of the mission statement gets
about 90% of what we do.
Koertje had the same question as Fasick had. He stated the commission
was around before the fund and would be around after the fund. He stated if
the mission statement is to be adopted he would recommend some word
smithing.
Trice stated she included the historical commission's mission statement as
a reference.
Stewart stated he was fine with not having an official mission statement,
more of an outreach statement.
It was determined the statement will be known as an outreach statement,
rather than a mission statement.
Discussion ensued regarding the specific language and what language to
include.
Committee Reports —
No committee reports were discussed.
Update on Demolition
116 Aline
Trice presented the update for the window removal. The subcommittee released
this permit because the windows were like for like.
