5 <br />LOUISVILLE’S BIG THREE <br /> <br /> <br />ENERGY EFFICIENCY <br />Definition: Using less energy to provide the same service 1. <br /> <br />Goal: Reduce the City and residents of Louisville per capita energy consumption <br />and make the City’s energy supply and systems cleaner and more efficient, <br />thereby reducing the City’s carbon footprint, improving building infrastructure, <br />reducing energy costs, and stimulating jobs and commerce. <br /> <br />RESOURCE CONSERVATION <br />Definition: The practice of selecting and using products, processes, or <br />technologies that minimize the overall use or consumption of resources. <br /> <br />Goal: Reduce resources consumed through substitution, recycling, and advanced <br />technologies. <br /> <br />LOCALIZATION <br />Definition: The practice of investing in local resources to produce a measurable <br />portion of the goods, services, food and energy it consumes. <br /> <br />Goal: Provide education and information sources that promote and support local <br />resources so that 50-years from now, Louisville will still be a great place to live. <br />1 From Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, What’s Energy Efficiency?
