2 <br />8. Items not accepted need to be retrieved by the donor within thirty days. Items not <br />retrieved by the donor after notification will be disposed of at the Museum's <br />discretion and without any liability to the Commission members or Museum staff. <br />9. Museum will not collect items considered under the heading of Natural History unless <br />they pertain specifically to the mission of the Museum. <br />10. Museum will not accept loans for indefinite periods of time or for any purpose other <br />than temporary use. <br />11. Donations to the Museum are tax deductible. Commission members or Museum staff <br />will make no appraisals. <br />DEACCESSION AND DISPOSITION OF ITEMS <br />Deaccession is the formal process used to remove permanently an item from the <br />collection. <br />1. Items in the collection will be retained if they continue to be relevant and useful to <br />purposes and activities of the Museum and if they can be properly stored, preserved, <br />and used. Deaccessioning of items may be considered when these conditions no <br />longer prevail or when clear title cannot be established and the donor /lender wishes <br />the items return. <br />2. Items will be deaccessioned upon recommendation of the Museum staff and subject <br />to the approval of the Louisville Historical Commission. <br />3. Consideration will be given to placing deaccessioned items in another museum or <br />non - profit agency through gift or exchange so that they may serve the purpose for <br />which they were accessioned. Preference will be given to other historical agencies in <br />the State of Colorado. <br />4. Records pertaining to deaccessioned items will be maintained permanently. <br />PUBLIC ACCESS <br />The collection shall be accessible to the public for the purposes of research and education <br />during Museum hours or by appointment. Supervision required. <br />
