Historical Commission
Minutes
May 6, 2015
discussed include routine items requested every year (to pay for such items as the
PastPerfect museum cataloging services), plus:
New Chairs for the Jacoe Store
Email marketing services, if not covered separately by the City
Oral History Intern or contract work
$1,200.00
$ 300.00
$3,000.00
(for continuing /completing transcriptions and preparing oral histories for public
access)
Request for a % increase across all line items for inflation
Request for funding to send Bridget Bacon and Megan Huelman to the Annual
Conference of the American Association for State & Local History (AASLH).
Commission members strongly expressed that the Museum staff members should
attend a national museum conference every year so that they can keep up with
museum standards and trends.
It was also expressed that a solid basis for the City to increase its funding for Museum
operations is due to there being a second staff member working at the Museum, a
third building open to the public, and a fourth day a week open to the public since last
year.
GLP moved and Betty Scarpella seconded a motion to approve and include these
budget items in the operational budget request for the Museum that Bridget will
convey to Beth Barrett. The motion passed unanimously.
X. Update on Needs Assessment process:
A. GLP reported on her presentation to the Revitalization Commission, which
considers urban renewal issues and projects. The presentation was favorably
received, and members indicated interest in the plans for the new building and
revamped museum campus. They indicated that even though the Museum is outside
of the "Urban Renewal District," the Museum might be eligible to receive funds.
B. Update on Historic Structure Assessments: No additional news. Lauren Trice of the
Planning Department is collating input from Bridget Bacon and Beth Barrett.
XI. Items of Common Interest with the LHPC:
There will be a county -wide Forum on Historic Preservation to be held May 22, 2015
from 1 -4PM at the Arts Center. Historical Commission members are invited to attend.
XII. Louisville History Foundation update: In order for the HC and LHF members to meet
one another if they have not had a chance to do so already, Foundation directors plan
to attend the beginnings of the next few HC meetings.
XIII. Commission comments & discussion items for the next meeting:
4
