Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
June 10th 2015
Page 6of6
Laura asked whether there were alternatives to memorial benches for people who were
interested in historical issues. She also suggested that we need to get beyond just
benches. Linda suggested dedicated playground equipment or shelters. Laura suggested
memorial bricks like on the University of Colorado plazas.
Missy asked whether the document needs some sort of statement like "the average life of
a bench is 20 years" so that there is no expectation of perpetuity.
Helen asked for a style standard. Ember said there is already a style standard for Open
Space and Park plaques. (Bronze plaques, text only, etc.)
Laura moved that he board approve the document contingent upon it including the
following recommendations:
1) Clarify that trees are for Parks only.
2) Finite bench sites, predetermined by city (approving the current map).
3) City reserves the right to relocate or remove, strike last sentence of the bullet point.
4) Non - perishable items are not permitted and will be removed.
XII. Necessary Procedure to Consider Expanding OSAB Responsibilities to
Include Trails
Meredith Muth thinks the ordinance already empowers the OSAB to have purview over
trail issues. So we won't need any further procedure to add that responsibility. Mike
asked if this legal opinion was written and if so could be put into the minutes.
XIII. Discussion Items for Next Meeting on July 8th —
A) Review Draft `Ranger Survey' (including amenities at the Davidson Mesa
Dog Off -leash Area). Missy and Linda cautioned not to ask people about things in the
survey that the city wouldn't be able to provide.
B) Missy asked for an update on wayfinding.
C) Mike asked for a summary of the bird survey if it is complete in time for the
next meeting.
D) Laura asked for an update on how the Open Space ranger program was going.
XIV. Adjourn —
The meeting adjourned at 9:10 pm.
7
