Quiet Zones <br />Segments of railroad lines where train crews are <br />exempt from requirement of sounding horn at grade <br />crossings. <br />Neither RTD nor BNSF is eligible to apply for Quiet <br />Zone. Submittal must come from local jurisdiction <br />RTD has budgeted approximately $325,000 per <br />crossing for upgrades <br />Additionally, RTD has approximately $15 million <br />budgeted for noise mitigation. If Quite Zones are used <br />to mitigate Severe and in some instances Moderate) <br />noise impacts (as defined by the FTA), funds can be <br />used from this budget can be applied to the applicable <br />Quiet Zone. <br />
