1 PROFILE EXISTING WATER SYSTEM <br />TABLE 2 <br />Summary of Supply Side Limitations and Future Needs <br />Limitation or Future Need <br />Comments on Limitation or Future Need <br />How is Limitation or Future Need <br />Being Addressed <br />Raw water storage <br />The total raw water storage capacity of <br />1,927 to 3,427 acre -feet is less than the <br />City's current annual water consumption. <br />Efficient water use to minimize the need <br />for additional raw water storage. Evaluate <br />interconnects and storage projects to <br />increase flexibility of raw water supply <br />system. <br />Water treatment plant capacity <br />The City has two water treatment plants <br />with a combined treatment capacity of <br />13.0 mgd (firm production capacity of <br />approximately 12.1 mgd). There are some <br />limitations on the source water that each <br />plant is able to receive. <br />Efficient water use to eliminate need for <br />capacity increases at the water treatment <br />plants. Increase flexibility of moving raw <br />water between the two treatment plants. <br />Wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) <br />capacity to meet future regulations <br />Current rated WWTP capacity is 3.4 mgd, <br />but future effluent regulations have the <br />potential to impact the plant capacity. <br />In 2015, the City will start construction of <br />the WWTP upgrades to meet redundancy, <br />ammonia, and nutrient removal <br />regulations. The plant capacity will also be <br />decreased to 2.53 mgd to meet regulations. <br />Louisville pipeline <br />The pipeline reliably delivers 5.2 cfs <br />(3.36 mgd) to the Howard Berry WTP and <br />4.9 cfs to the Louisville Reservoir. May <br />operate at capacity during peak months <br />depending on demand, the amount of water <br />supplied from C -BT, and the amount of <br />divertible water rights. <br />There are no projects planned to increase <br />capacity of the Louisville pipeline. Blending <br />of raw water sources will be required to <br />meet future demands. <br />C -BT water pipeline <br />Pipeline capacity is 4.2 cfs (2.7 mgd). The <br />City has other water supplies, but if more <br />C -BT water was required to meet demand it <br />would be difficult to meet the peak, <br />especially in summer months. <br />SWSP upsizing is planned to occur within <br />the next 10 years. Blending of raw water <br />sources will be required to meet future <br />demands. <br />Overall system reliability <br />Even with multiple water supply options and <br />two treatment plants, the system is still <br />vulnerable to unpredictable events. <br />Interconnects would increase reliability. <br />The City has potable water interconnects <br />with the City of Lafayette and is currently <br />working on designing an interconnect with <br />the Town of Superior. <br />Notes: <br />C -BT = Colorado -Big Thompson <br />cfs = cubic feet per second <br />mgd = million gallons per day <br />WBG071714052946BS0 <br />1 -3 <br />
