IU citiyof
Louisville
Golf Course Advisory Board Minutes
July 20 2015
COLORADO • SINCE 1878
agreed to prepare a Marketing Strategy and Value Proposition for the course to
be reviewed at the October Board meeting. Many building blocks are in place
including a drone fly -over video. The Press and local TV stations were invited to
attend the Grand Opening but did not take up the invitation.
b. The Mine Restaurant is being well received. Most customers comment on the
improved food service and friendliness of the staff. Lisa commented that the
lunch catered for the Ladies League was excellent and this was provided while
another party of 96 was being served inside the clubhouse. Service for golfers at
the turn is much improved with the outside grill. There is no phone line to the
restaurant at present that would allow golfers to call in orders from the 9th tee and
this is being looked into. The clubhouse infrastructure is finally acceptable with no
major issues. The new AC system needs to be rebalanced and insulation could
be improved but these are routine matters. Staff estimates that <$400K has been
spent since the initial work on the clubhouse started three years ago. "The Mine"
has working Wi -Fi in the clubhouse and, at present is willing to share their
password with clubhouse users. They may choose to stop sharing so the Mine
can use Wi -Fi for internal transactions and communication. The City IT technical
staff plan to have a City hosted Wi -Fi at the clubhouse for public use and this is
expected to be up and running within two weeks.
c. Maintenance issues. The fairways are steadily improving and additional seeding
is being done. The back tee on hole #17 is ready to be mowed and put into play.
Walkways will be mowed through the high grass once traffic patterns are
established. It was noted that golfers are taking carts over the mowed walkway to
the front tee on hole #5 and this needs to be stopped. Weeds are a big issue that
is being addressed. It was noted that ball washers are in place only on every
second tee box (and on all par three holes.) The punchbowl green is in partial use
and is filling in for the normal practice putting green which was damaged by
mowing. There is adequate sod for repair work, both from sod purchased for the
restoration as well as from the nursery green. There will be no colored flags to
indicate pin position. The score card will show 1, 2 and 3 pin positions and golfers
will be informed of the pin positions in use on any specific day. LU's work is
complete with some minor punch list items remaining. The irrigation system
performs well but requires some tuning. It was noted how quickly the fairways dry
up and turn brown when there are strong winds and high temperatures.
d. Social Media. No specific updates. "Friends of Coal Creek" sees a small number
of added comments and there are very intermittent comments on Google. The
City webpage (accessed via louisvilleco.gov) is up to date but does not yet
provide an active newsletter. Denise White plans to send out weekly updates to
registered golfers and David Baril, in the past, has also posted a simple weekly
status. There is no active Twitter feed.
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT • 749 MAIN STREET • LOUISVILLE, CO 80027
(303) 335 -4735 FAX (303) 335 -4738
www.louisvilleco.gov
PARKS RECREATION SENIOR SERVICES OPEN SPACE FORESTRY TRAILS GOLF
5
