Louisville Cultural Council Meeting <br />May 18,2015 <br />Meeting Notes <br />What the LCC Does Now (Brainstorm) <br />• Program activities throughout the year <br />• Events (music, art, history, and writing —all arts listed in mission) <br />• Meet routinely to talk about art once a month <br />• Collaborate with community members who are dedicated to arts <br />• Budget - revenue sources include grants, SCFD, City, individual, income from events <br />• Spend 100% of revenue on programming <br />• Advise City Council on arts /cultural matters (regular updates but not frequent — annual) <br />• Try to support /hire local artists <br />• Try to pay a fair wage <br />• Working on Cultural Arts Master Plan and associated survey <br />• Promise to complete a sculpture park <br />• Other public art advising <br />• Collaborate with other community arts people and programs (library, museums, LAA, CST, CCT, <br />Arts Underground, etc.) <br />• Staff schedules the Arts Center with input from LCC <br />• Represent City residents <br />What the LCC Should Be Doing (Brainstorm) <br />• Support arts in the community <br />• Collaborate with artists, businesses, etc. (Efforts should be expanded.) <br />• More partnerships with universities <br />• Cultural Arts Master Plan (CAMP) <br />• Advisory to City Council (e.g., CAMP) <br />• Serve as an umbrella for other efforts on topics referenced in current LCC mission <br />• Fulfill gaps in mission <br />• Cultivate /advocate for a welcoming environment for new artists and organizations <br />• Collect SCFD funding <br />• Get more people to come —more young people, expand demographic <br />• Artists (painters, sculptors, dancers, actors, musicians, graphic artists, architects, photographers, <br />singers, poets, writers, orators, filmmakers, lecturers, event producers, etc.) <br />• Advocate for more cultural infrastructure and staff within the city <br />• Narrow mission (Doing too much ?) <br />• Target audience we want to serve; meet the need in the community <br />• Assess other offerings; do not duplicate <br />• Do not do things that are commercially viable on their own <br />• Respond to desires in the community <br />• Programming? Granting? <br />• Summer concert series <br />• Signature events <br />• Be known as a good, reliable source of funding and support <br />1 <br />
