August 2015 4
Boulder’s Space Science Institute is again
partnering with the Library to bring
another great exhibit to our community Oc-
tober 13 through January 5, 2016. Mark your
calendars and check the web site for a schedule
of special programs.
liBrary & MuseuM news
on the saMe Page
For the 5th consecutive year, the Library joins the Town
of Superior and the Lafayette Library asking people to
read and discuss the same book, or the same topic.
This year, two books were selected which deal with an is-
sue that will touch us all, but we often avoid thinking about:
how we approach the end of our lives. As surgeon Atul Ga-
wande explains in his non-fiction bestseller Being Mortal, ad-
vances in medical technology have changed our understand-
ing and experience of death. Our modern medical arsenal in
many cases allows us to forestall death, but sometimes at the
cost of prolonging suffering without improving quality of life.
For a fictional look at some of the same issues, Colorado
author Kent Haruf’s Benediction is a story of life and death
and the ties that bind, set on the High Plains in Holt, Colo-
rado.
Join the community conversation about these books and
come to events to explore these themes in September and Oc-
tober. On The Same Page is funded by the Louisville Library
Foundation, the Lafayette Friends of the Library Foundation,
and the Town of Superior. Information and event schedules
are available on the program web site (onthesamepage.us).
suMMer reading sPonsors
The Library’s annual nine-week program was a huge
success with nearly 2,000 participants—more than
ever before—and amazing support from our sponsors.
