IU citiyof
Louisville
Golf Course Advisory Board Minutes
August 17 2015
COLORADO • SINCE 1878
the height of the native grasses by occasional mowing as needed. The design intent
is to have long wispy fescue grass but the area was also seeded with rye grass to
hold the soil in place that had been disturbed during the drainage improvements and
re- sloping of the course to aid flooding management. The rye has grown excessively
due to heavy spring rains. The irrigation system is designed for limited coverage in
the native grass areas which should let the excess growth of rye grass die down in
the future. The irrigation is designed for 100% coverage in other areas and will
always spray away from adjoining fences. The board noted that the high native grass
areas slow play through looking for lost balls. There was a difference of opinion on
how long the native grass was designed to be: Dennis Maloney quoted Kevin Norby
as specifying 3 — 4 ", Staff remembered 6 — 8 ". At present, it is clear that the actual
height is often 12" or more and unplayable. The Board encouraged the affected
homeowners to study the memo from Joe and respond as appropriate. The
homeowners also asked that the large weeds be pulled. The maintenance staff is
working on that throughout the course. The homeowners asked that Board Members
visit their property to fully understand their concerns as viewed from the adjoining
yards and Ken and Lisa agreed to do so.
6. Staff Update on outstanding course issues:
a. Sarah Jarman gave a summary on The Mine Restaurant. The staff is learning the
nuances of catering to golfers. Overall results have been encouraging, the first
month generated average revenue of $12 per golfer. David Baril agreed that this
was a good result and it compared well with the $9 per golfer reported by WGP.
The Board commented that customers reported that the food and service were
excellent. Lisa reported some complaints from the Ladies League on wine
choices being expensive although pricing was appropriate for the quality of wines
being served. Sarah stated that she did not want to serve cheap and poor wine in
order to meet a price point and would prefer to serve good house wines at a
competitive pricing. She agreed to provide a printed list of wine and beer prices
with special offers as appropriate. It was noted that some of the Ladies had been
unnecessarily rude to staff. Both Brian Harris of the Men's Club and Lisa of the
Ladies League are very happy with the service being offered. The Mine staff is
learning how to cope with the rush of customers when Shotgun Start rounds are
completed. Sarah is concerned about the challenge of surviving the winter
months when little golf is being played and is planning to promote the Restaurant
to the General Public and through special events. On August 28, a Nine and Dine
four course meal is scheduled and she is working with the Pro Shop to schedule
"Buckets and Beer" events. Sunday Brunches will be planned for the near future
and she noted that several special events have already taken place such as a
Groom's Dinner, a banquet for the Monarch Golf Team and Wrestling Team.
