LCitiyof
Louisville
COLORADO • SINCE 1878
Horticulture & Forestry
Advisory Board
Minutes
October 1, 2015
Louisville Recreation Center — Paramount Room
900 West Via Appia
7:00 PM
L Call to order — Chair Mike Frontczak called the meeting to order at 7:08 pm.
II. Roll Call- Board members present: Shelly Alm, Mike Frontczak, English Hopkins,
Beverlee White. Board members absent: Neal Griggsmiller, Mark Newland, Ellen
Toon. Staff member present: Dean Johnson. City Council member absent: Susan Loo.
III. The agenda was approved by all members, with a change in item order.
IV. The minutes from the September 3, 2015 meeting were approved.
V. Public Comments on Items not on the Agenda — English Hopkins questioned the budget
proposals for 2 new Parks staff hires @ $63,000 each, and the amount of money
($20,000 - $30,000) for mowing contracts. Dean informed the Board of revisions to the
original proposals, saying that at this time, he expected only one new staff hire, a
Horticulturist, and that there would be outside contracting for mowing and weed
management. He assured the Board that if the contract work costs exceeded the budget,
that there would be an appropriate adjustment. This solution would not lock in a
second hire prematurely. The Contract work would be monitored and reviewed.
VI. Pruning Demonstration at the Arboretum. Chris Lichty, City Forester, had offered 2
dates: October 17th and October 24th. The Board approved Saturday, October 24th 10
am. Dean suggested that Polly Boyd cut and paste the 2014 Pruning flyer for the
October 24th event. Arborist, Michael Towers, will assist Chris Lichty, City Forester in
the pruning demonstration at the Arboretum.
VII. Update on Transition to Parks Board. City Council has approved the new Board: Parks
and Public Landscape Advisory Board.
