• The existing buildings (Jacoe Store, Tomeo House, and Jordinelli House) will each be given a
more distinct focus so that each will contribute to telling Louisville's story in a more
functional way and more exhibit space will be created
• This full Needs Assessment report can be viewed at the Museum's website and will be a
major component of the Museum Master Plan to be adopted later in 2015
3. Positive outcomes of making the recommended improvements to the Museum campus:
• This will help to further strengthen downtown Louisville and provide a focal point
• With this being the only tourist attraction currently in Louisville, this is an opportunity to
expand visitorship and usage and to tell the story of Louisville
• City is considering a name change to Louisville Visitor Center & Historical Museum
• Museum's location on Main Street can become a major advantage due to the pedestrian
underpass /gateway on South Street that will channel people right to the Museum's door
• Museum staff & volunteers will continue to emphasize personal interactions with visitors
and the sharing of stories — the things we want people to remember about Louisville
• This will increase connections and contacts among groups of people
• The gathering space could be made available to other community groups as a City meeting
space with ADA access
• We can focus on the Museum being the northern anchor of the downtown business district
• The outdoor space between the Jacoe Store and Jordinelli House will be the site of public
events and programs and, potentially, private events
• The improvements will enhance the reputation of the Louisville Historical Museum for all
citizens of Louisville as well as visitors from elsewhere
4. How to pay for the new Community House and the other recommended improvements?
• The Needs Assessment report gave an estimated a cost of $3.47 million for the design and
construction of the Community House and the improvements to the existing historical
buildings and the campus
• We are working with the Louisville History Foundation to identify funding possibilities. These
will likely include corporate and individual donations, City funding, and grant funding.
2
