SUBJECT: UPDATE /DISCUSSION- YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD
DATE: APRIL 8, 2008
DECEMBER:
• 12/13/07- YAB members helped with Dessert and Story Time with Santa @ the
Recreation Center.
• Planning begins in earnest for joint Poetry Slam project with the Louisville
Cultural Council.
JANUARY:
• 1/10/08- Melanie Muckle from the Louisville Historic Preservation Commission
spoke to YAB members about the Louisville Middle School renovation project,
explaining the historical significance of preserving the facade.
• Members were supposed to assist with The Art Underground's grand Opening
ceremony, but the opening date was pushed back due to construction delays. It
was decided that research and attending meetings concerning the LMS
Renovation Project, plus work being done towards the spring Poetry Slam,
would take sufficient time during the month and that another volunteer project
was not necessary.
FEBRUARY:
• 2/7/08- Susan Cousins, BVSD Bond Communications, and Dave Compton, BVSD
Director of Planning & Construction, attended the monthly YAB meeting and
provided further information about the LMS Renovation Project.
• 2/21/08- YAB Members helped with the Annual Heat Relief Dinner at the
Recreation Center.
MARCH:
• 3/13/08- Community Food Share volunteer project at King Soopers.
• 3/18/08- YAB members attended the City Council meeting to invite Council
members and the public to the spring Poetry Slam.
• 3/20/08- St. Patrick's Day/ Ireland dinner for Seniors at the Recreation Center-
volunteer event.
• All members work hard to promote the Poetry Slam and finalize plans. The YAB
members are divided into sub-committees to split up job efforts for the night of
the Slam (ticket takers, refreshments, etc.). Members work on getting coverage
into the paper, on the Internet, with flyers hung about town and word-of-mouth
via language arts teachers at area schools.
APRIL:
• 4/5/08- Poetry Slam- set and up technical rehearsal.
• 4/8/08-YAB members attend the City Council study session to provide
• 4/12/08- Poetry Slam!
• 4/28/08- Kidtastics Event at the recreation Center- will be a good opportunity to
volunteer service to assist children and possibly recruit new YAB members?
