Lathrop felt it was Conarroe's ploy to sell newspapers. <br /> <br />CONTINUATION OF PUBLIC HEARING ON THE CITY OF LOUISVILLE'S CABLE <br />TELEVISION FRANCHISE WITH SCRIPPS HOWARD CABLE COMPANY <br /> <br />Davidson opened the public hearing stating that Scripps Howard <br />provided cable service to the City of Louisville and had asked the <br />city to renew its franchise with the city to sell cable television <br />services within Louisville. As a part of the renewal process, the <br />City of Louisville is conducting public hearings to receive public <br />comments on the performance of Scripps Howard under the present <br />franchise agreement and to identify future cable related needs and <br />interests of the community. He stated that public hearings were <br />held on June 28 and July 21, 1993. He explained that this public <br />hearing is a continuation of the previous public hearings. <br /> <br />Sisk stated that Council had the benefit of a cable television <br />survey and he requested that the survey be admitted into the <br />record. <br /> <br />Davidson stated that the survey would be made part of the public <br />record of this meeting. <br /> <br />Chris Miller, Assistant to the City Administrator, stated that this <br />public hearing was an opportunity to provide citizens or cable <br />subscribers an opportunity to comment on the present service of <br />Scripps Howard. He explained that they had allowed Greg Griffin <br />from Scripps Howard to respond to the comments at the end of the <br />previous public hearings and he asked that it be the same format at <br />this public hearing. <br /> <br />Greg Griffin, General Manager, Scripps Howard Cable, Longmont, <br />Colorado, stated that they have 14 cable systems in Colorado. He <br />commented that Scripps Howard is a multi-national media company <br />diversified in publishing and broadcasting. It's a Fortune 500 <br />company and has been in business for over 100 years. He expressed <br />his desire to negotiate a new agreement with the City of <br />Louisville. <br /> <br />Tim Kater, Manager of a technical assistance program with CSU and <br />the State Department of Local Affairs, CSU Cooperative Extension, <br />150 East 29th Street, Loveland, Colorado 80538, stated that he <br />covers 14 counties of northern and eastern Colorado, including <br />Boulder, Larimer, Weld, Sedgewick, Phillips, Yuma, Kit Carson, <br />Cheyenne counties, extending out to the Kansas, Nebraska state <br />lines. He explained that the survey was developed by the City of <br />Louisville to evaluate the performance of Scripps Howard in <br />providing cable TV service to Louisville. There were 7,104 surveys <br />were sent mailing addresses within the city limits, with 1,565 <br />surveys being returned by the due date of July 20, 1993, which is <br />a 22% response rate. Because the survey was sent to the entire <br />population of Louisville, they cannot consider the results to be <br /> <br /> <br />
