Cityot
Louisville
COLORADO • SINCE 1878
CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA ITEM 11
SUBJECT:
RECREATION /SENIOR CENTER AND AQUATICS FEASIBILITY
STUDY UPDATE
DATE: FEBRUARY 23, 2016
PRESENTED BY: JEFF LIPTON, CHAIRPERSON, RECREATION /SENIOR
CENTER AND AQUATICS TASK FORCE
SUMMARY:
The Recreation /Senior Center and Aquatics Task Force has been meeting on a regular
basis focusing on developing for City Council consideration a program of expansions
and improvements to the Recreation /Senior Center and Indoor and Outdoor Aquatic
Facilities. Over the past few months, the Task Force has:
• Hosted two (2) open houses with over 150 active participants.
• Toured Front Range Recreation and Senior Centers from Denver to Loveland.
• Participated in a Task Force "Build -a- Center" exercise conducted by Sink Combs
Dethlefs (SCD), City- retained consultant, to assist with this phase of the project.
• Engaged the Senior Advisory Board, Youth Advisory Board, City staff, and other
facility stakeholders to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
to current Recreation Facilities and Programs.
• Designed a Citizen Survey that will be mailed out to approximately 3,000
Louisville households in February with results coming back in March.
The Task Force would like to provide an update on progress to date, share some initial
insights and solicit Council comments regarding:
• Programming and design elements that are under consideration by the Task
Force, SCD and staff.
• Project timeline
• Funding options
A. Design and construction
B. Operations
Once the Task force has statistically valid survey results, SCD will develop conceptual
plans, cost estimates and alternatives that will be shared at open houses conducted by
the Task Force. That information will lead to a preferred alternative that will be
incorporated into a second survey and form the basis for a formal recommendation to
City Council regarding a potential bond issue on the November's 2016 ballot for the City
of Louisville.
CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
2
