REGULAR BUSINESS:
APPROVAL OF PROPOSED 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION
EVENTS The Chamber of Commerce presented the proposed
schedule of events for the Annual July 4th
Celebration in Memory Square Park. The Chamber
requested Council's approval of the Celebration
- and the necessary street closures. Activities are
scheduled to began at 8:00 a.m. and last until
4:30 p.m., with the Chamber providing the
traditional food a.nd~activities.
Eugene Caranci, i:he director of the Louisville
Chamber of Commerce spoke on the planned
activities for this years' Fourth of July
Celebration. The Chamber is asking that Spruce
St. from Jefferson to Grant be closed, Jefferson
Street from Spruce to Walnut, and Grant St. from
Walnut to the swimming pool. He assured the
Council that fire lanes would be provided on all
the closed streets. Chamber has asked the Fire
District to provide assistance in case of
emergency. Fireworks will be at dusk at Centennial
Valley, provided by the American Legion. Caranci
then asked if there were any questions. None.
Mohr moved and the Mayor seconded Council approval
of the street closures and the schedule of
proposed events for the celebration. The motion
passed 5-0.
APPROVAL OF REQUEST TO EXTEND HOURS OF OPERATION -
MOBILE PUSHCART Robin Paquet presented a request to extend the
permitted hours of operation for her mobile hot
dog cart. Ms. Paquet has requested that the
Monday through Saturday hours be adjusted to allow
operation from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and that Sundays
be included in they schedule of approved hours and
days of operation.
David Stahl presented staff recommendations on
these proposals, stating that traditionally the
downtown restaurants have satisfied the need for
Sunday business which primarily consists of non-
resident restaurant goers. Staff recommends that
Ms. Paquet's days be extended to include Sunday,
at the park areas but not in the downtown area.
Staff also recommends that "9 p.m." be changed to
"9 p.m. or dusk, whichever is earlier", for safety
reasons when the days become shorter.
Anderson moved and Carnival seconded to grant Ms.
Paquet's request for extending her hours and days
of operation with the staff proposed amendments.
The motion passed 4-1 with Sackett voting no.
2
