This proposal was t:o have been reviewed by the
Senior Citizen Boax•d for approval, but the meeting
was rescheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, January
20, 1987. Krisko ~;uggests the approval of the
contract contingent: upon the Board's support.
Krisko stated that with this contract, the City is
gaining a driver wYio will utilize the City's van
for the first four months of the year and after
that time, STS will be providing both a driver and
their own van. The City's van driver resigned in
December and staff felt this alternative would
provide a necessary service for less money.
During the four months that STS uses the City's
van, they will reirnburse the City for fuel and the
cost per mile of fixed vehicle costs for STS
funders' transportation.
Fares are voluntary based upon need. By PUC
requirements, they are not allowed to collect fees
and therefore it is structured as a donation to
anyone who can in fact make a payment. All
contributions would go to the STS program.
Sackett stated that: STS provides service to many
of the patients of Boulder Memorial Hospital and
STS does "an excellent job." The drivers are very
courteous and make sure the patient is properly
taken care of before leaving.
Hundley stated that: he had contacted Lafayette and
they feel the program has been a success. Staff
will check with other participating cities.
Areas of concern Council expressed included:
1) will handicapped equipment be required on the
STS van; 2) will seniors receive the priority ser-
vices represented; 3) are the fees strictly volun-
tary; 4 ) do the the; fees go directly to STS; 5 )
does this service ~?rovide the seniors with the
necessary transporttation when needed.
Szymanski moved that action on this contract be
postponed until the' next Council meeting after the
seniors have had tlhe opportunity to review it and
staff clarify areas of concern within the proposed
STS contract, and ]have the services continue on a
temporary basis; and notify STS that Council is
pleased with the service thus far. Mohr seconded.
Unanimous.
APPROVAL OF CONTRACTS - BUSINESS INCUBATOR
FEASIBILITY STUDY (Mohr asked to be .excused for this Agenda Item.)
Hundley stated than at the January 6th work
4
