Mayor Fauson closed the Public Hearing and moved
that Ordinance #882, Series 1986, be adopted.
Mohr seconded. By roll call vote, Ordinance #882
Series 1986, was adopted unanimously.
AUTHORIZATION TO OBTAIN BIDS -
SOUTH BOULDER ROAD PROJECT
Phare explained that the plans and specification
for the South Boulder Road project are nearly
complete. This project includes "4-laning" and
provides left-turn lanes and bike lanes on South
Boulder Road from Via Appia to McCaslin B1vd.The
current schedule anticipates having the plans and
specifications ready for the next Council meeting
and therefore, it is advisable to obtain construc-
tion bids as soon as possible in order to keep the
project on schedule. Once bids are received and
analyzed, staff will come back to Council for bid
award.
Szymanski asked when the project would be
complete. Phare anticipates 120 day construction
contract and that could be 6 weeks away from
commencement. This portion of South Boulder Road
would not be landscaped at this time for budgetary
reasons. The portion of South Boulder Road than
currently does not have medians would not be
included in this project. As far as traffic is
concerned, this will provide a full pavement
cross-section for traffic, bicycles and
pedestrians.
Mohr questioned what the total projected cost for
this phase would be. Including engineering and
management fees, the projected cost is slightly
over $1 million, Phare noted.
Hundley stated that it is not uncommon to be
"wrapping up" minor details at the time staff
is asking for Counci_1 approval to obtain bids.
Phare explained that signalization is a separate
project due to the fact the City is utilizing
Federal Aid Urban Secondary Funds to offset most
of the cost. The signalization project would come
approximately a month after the completion of the
street paving.
Anderson asked if sound barriers were a
consideration in the project. Phare explained
that the landscaping has been left out. When the
actual bids come in, Phare would want to take all
things into consideration before making any type
of commitments at this time.
5
