Johnson reiterated what she stated at Council's
last discussion. She asked that residents look at
their own tax liability. "At an average of $15 to
$20.......which comes to about $.35 a week, I
think you are receiving more than that in
services." "Also, I don't think you should hang
the school districts proposed increase over our
heads."
Leary asked to speak on the issue of a use tax.
"If we were to go to a use tax, the impact on our
households would be about 50-100$ greater than
this 2 mill increase. It shifts it all to the
household. It takes it away from the industrial
commercial base. We can't sit and argue that we
need growth in here in the industrial and
commercial area so that we get more tax base if we
aren't going to collect taxes from these people.
Going to 8 or 9 mills is still very competitive."
Morris spoke briefly stating that no one likes any
kind on tax increases. I moved to Louisville for
a very specific quality,of life that I feel is
very very important to me. Very much of that
quality of life is the services that are provided
by the City, by the s choo 1 s a s we 11. I am wi 1 1 ing
to pa+y for those things that are important in my
quality of life. I am not so naive to think that
I can request those services and not give up my
time, my energy and my pocketbook. And although I
don't like to do it, I feel that there is just no
option at this point."
Mayor Meier stated that most things he felt were
already stated. "I think that the citizens on
November 5th have, somewhat of an option. This
Council has stated before that if the sales tax
question does pass, this Council would drop the
property tax. That is one other option. A sales
tax will let a lot of other people from the County
pay fora lot of the capital improvements. It is
something at least to consider."
Mayor Meier movec~ that the Public Hearing for the
proposed property tax increase be continued to a
Special Council Meeting set for Wednesday, October
30, 1985, at 7:45 p.m. Cussen seconded.
Unanimous.
~~Ot~Tio~ g~6 _ TAy, LL+~IY FOR 1995
1~ ~ ppTION OF 1986 BUDGET
'~~Ot u~I~~ ~~p'1 - ~ 86 LONDS AYYILO4RIATION
y Q~ R~'~' ~ IMQRO~~~T 4ROGRAM
aES~v~TI, of ~A4I~AL
