Proposed Recreation Facility Expansions!
II • e •
Why is the City Considering Expanding These Facilities?
We hear concerns about crowding, aging equipment, and functional limitations at these facilities.
The Recreation/Senior Center facility was built in 1990, over 25 years ago, when the City had a
population of 12,361. Memory Square Pool was built in 1972 when approximately 2,500 people lived
in Louisville. The City currently has a population of close to 20,000 and these facilities no longer have
sufficient space to meet current programming demands.
What is the Estimated Cost of this Project?
The total estimated cost of capital improvements to the Recreation/Senior Center and Memory
Square Pool is roughly $26-$30 million, which includes architectural, development, construction,
contingency and financing costs. To fund such a proposal, the city council is considering proposing
two tax questions on the November ballot: one to finance the capital construction and a second one
to finance the additional, long-term operations and maintenance (O&M) costs. Staff and consultants
are working to finalize the O&M expenses but preliminary numbers are approximately
$650,000 - $750,000 annually.
Would the RecreationISenior Center remain open
during construction?
A phased construction plan would allow for most of the center to remain open. At times certain parts
of the center will need to be closed to allow for construction.
Where can I learn more about the proposed projects?
Additional information is available at www.louisvillerecreation.com
I / * - Next Steps
?,
itts435
v+T ;ti • Recreation Center Expansion Task Force continues
'' to take public input through June.
,r1.•; , e • City Council will consider placing the two tax
,: f questions on the ballot at their July 19 and
August 2 meetings.
1. - Louisville voters will get to approve or reject
•iPl the ballot issue at the November 8 election.
P
E, e ecreationiSenior Center
4 •
I. 1
