Historic Preservation Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />October 17, 2016 <br />Page 2 of 19 <br />Staff Report of Facts and Issues: <br />Trice presents from Power Point: <br />HISTORY AND LOCATION <br />Between South Street and Short Street on LaFarge Avenue <br />Built in Circa 1905 <br />DiFrancia built houses for his daughters' dowries <br />Rosser, Jones and Thompson families <br />ARCHITECTURE <br />Gable roof, t -shaped <br />Folk Victorian style front porch <br />Clad in vinyl siding <br />Corrugated metal roof <br />Loss of window pediment detail <br />Brick chimney on south elevation <br />Window openings reconfigured, smaller and larger <br />2 -story rear addition constructed in 1997, addition is set back from the street and hardly <br />visible from LaFarge Avenue due to trees and location <br />Social Significance - Exemplifies cultural, political, economic or social heritage of the <br />community. <br />This house is associated with several Louisville families, including the DiFrancia family. <br />Architectural Significance - Represents a built environment of a group of people in an era of <br />history that is culturally significant to Louisville. <br />Vernacular structure with decorative Victorian details <br />Staff Recommendations: <br />Staff recommends finding there is probable cause to believe the building may be eligible for <br />landmarking making the property eligible for up to $900 for the cost of a historic structure <br />assessment. HPC may, by motion, approve or deny the finding of probable cause. <br />Commission Questions of Staff: None. <br />Applicant Presentation: <br />Debra Berkelhammer, 1034 LaFarge Avenue, Louisville, CO <br />I have had a long interest in the history of the house. I love this house dearly. We have lived <br />there for over 20 years and I would hate to see the house scraped off. We'd like to fix it up. <br />Commission Questions of Applicant: None. <br />Closed Public Hearing and Discussion by Commission: <br />Chuck Thomas says I agree that this structure warrants consideration for designation. It is a <br />very attractive house and a good example of the vernacular that we are trying to save. As a <br />resident, it adds value to be included in our list of historic properties. <br />Fahey says I agree with Chuck and the addition on the back is in keeping with our current <br />requirements for additions to historic structures. <br />Chuck Thomas makes a motion to find probable cause to believe the structure at 1034 <br />LaFarge Avenue may be eligible for landmarking under the criteria in Section 15.36.050 of the <br />
