The structure went through a major remodel the
year after the construction of 920 Main Street. Between 1948 and 1978, the following
changes occurred:
• Altering the roofline from hipped to a front gable
• Cladding the structure in brick veneer
• Constructing a metal front porch
• Adding aluminum siding and a decorative eave on the
• Adding two new picture window openings on the front facade
The following changes occurred between 1978 and 2010:
• Removing the front porch
• Replacing the windows with two -light sliders
• Removal of the decorative eave
Overall, the structure retains no architectural integrity compared to the pre -1949
structure. The existing structure, however, does have a high level of integrity compared
to the 1949 remodel.
920 Main Street
(full architectural description in 2000 Survey)
The one-story structure at 920 Main Street has a rectangular plan with wood frame
construction. The stuccoed, false -front parapet wall holds an entry door flanked by two
single -light fixed pane storefront windows. The sides are cladded in horizontal
weatherboard. Five, small, wood frame, 3 -light windows area located on the north
elevation and three similar windows are located on the south elevation.
A large, rear addition, constructed circa 1960 extends the building towards the alley and
includes a garage door.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE AND CRITERIA FOR FINDING PROBABLE CAUSE
FOR LISTING AS LOCAL LANDMARK:
To receive grant funding, the HPC must find probable cause that the property meets the
landmark criteria. Landmarks must be at least 50 years old and meet one or more of
the criteria for architectural, social or geographic/environmental significance as
described in Louisville Municipal Code (LMC) Section 15.36.050(A).
