Staff has found probable cause to believe this application complies with the <br />above criterion by the following: <br />Architectural Significance - Represents a built environment of a group of <br />people in an era of history that is culturally significant to Louisville. <br />• The structure at 924 Main is significant as an example of mid-century <br />remodel along Main Street. <br />• The structure at 920 Main Street is an example of wood -frame false -front <br />commercial building. <br />Social Significance - Exemplifies cultural, political, economic, or social <br />heritage of the community. <br />• The structure at 924 Main Street shows the transition of Main Street from <br />residential to commercial uses. The structure is associated with the <br />Clarkson and D'Amato families. <br />• The structure at 920 Main Street is significant for its association with the <br />D'Amato family and the commercial growth of Louisville. Joe's Fruit Store <br />was Louisville's last remaining example of an independently owned small- <br />scale market. The structure also represents Louisville's ethnic Italian <br />heritage. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />The structure at 920 Main Street has maintained its integrity, giving it architectural <br />significance. The structure at 924 Main Street has significance based on the 1949 <br />remodel. Both properties have social significance because of its association with <br />Clarkson and D'Amato families and the history of Louisville's Main Street businesses. <br />The application is to determine probable cause for both 920 and 924 Main Street. This <br />is the second application for probable cause determinations where there are two <br />principal structures are located on the same lot. In the previous application, 801-805 <br />LaFarge, the Historic Preservation Commission approved each of the structures for the <br />full grant amount. Staff recommends that the properties be treated as separate <br />structures, therefore, eligible for $6,000 each, a total of $12,000. <br />Staff recommends finding there is probable cause to believe the property may be <br />eligible for landmarking under the criteria in section 15.36.050 of the LMC, making the <br />property eligible for up to $6,000 for the cost of a historic structure assessment.
