want Louisville to look like that?
Do want ten liquor stores within a
two mile radius? Do you want 5 or 6
liquor stores in Louisville? As an
owner of Union Jack Liquor, when I
applied for my license seven years
ago, it was opposed. When we went
in everybody was struggling for
quite a long time. On the other
hand, when Centennial Liquor went in
there was no opposition. There was
a need and a desire for an outlet in
that area. That was a growing area
and nobody opposed it. I feel, as
well as several other business
owners here, that there is not a
need for another liquor store. In
terms of competition, that has no
relevance to your decision.

Davidson asked if the applicant or anyone in the audience had any
questions for Mr. Harper.

NONE

Davidson asked if anyone on the Authority had any questions.

Lathrop:

Mr. Harper, you indicated in your
handout that there are ten liquor
stores and you say there could be
ten liquor stores within a 2 1/2
mile radius. At the present time
there are five liquor stores within
a 1 1/2 mile radius.

Harper:

If you count R B Liquor, Union Jack
Liquor, Bungalow Liquor, P M Liquor,
and the new store, there would be
five within a 1 1/2 mile radius. If
you add in the other five stores in
Lafayette, then there would be ten
stores total.

Mayer:

Mr. Harper, your store has been here
seven or eight years?

Harper:

Since 1985.

Mayer:

Was yours the only one in the area
when you came in?

Harper:

No, there was R B Liquors and

30
