LOUISVILLE ENERGY ACTION PLAN <br />Demographics <br />Louisville had a population of 20,112 in 2014, making it the 36th most populated city in Colorado and the 3rd <br />largest city in Boulder County.2 According the U.S. Census numbers, the city has experienced 2% annual <br />growth since 2010. This outpaces trends of the greater Denver metropolitan region where the average <br />population growth rate is approximately 1.5% per year since 2010. <br />While the overall population is growing, it is trending older, with an average median age of 42 years while <br />Boulder County's and the Denver metro area's median age is about 36. Nearly half (42%) of the population <br />are aged between 25 and 55, which comprises much of the employed population. <br />Louisville's population is majority white (86%), with those of Hispanic origin comprising the second largest <br />racial or ethnic group (6%).3 Compared to the Denver metro area (66%), Louisville has a significantly <br />higher proportion of white residents. City of Louisville Demographics <br />Housing <br />According to the US Census, there are approximately 8,3004 housing units in Louisville, 83% of which are <br />single-family detached or attached structures. Of the available housing stock, 72% are owner -occupied and <br />28% renter occupied. Moreover, the housing stock in Louisville is considered mature with only 7% of <br />homes built since 2000. In fact, 64% of homes were built between 1980 and 1990, representing a unique <br />housing vintage with significant opportunity for energy efficiency improvements and savings.
