Library Board of Trustees
Minutes: May 15, 2008

B. Updated Meeting Room Policy Distributed

The approved, updated version of this policy was distributed, and the Board was
informed that the updated version is available at all public desks in the Library and
from the Library website.

8. New Business
A. Goals a: Work Plan
All agreed that obtaining a stable source of funding for the Library is still their
overriding concern.

The issue of Superior's financial participation is as yet unresolved. This outcome will
largely impact what specific goals the Board will need to identify and work toward.

B. Opportunities to Meet with Other Library Boards

Anne reported that the Lafayette Board is interested in a meeting. They meet on
Mondays, and the Louisville Board agreed to a Monday meeting. After further discussion,
the Board determined that September 2008 would be a good time for a meeting, which
would be held in Louisville because of the City's open meetings requirements. Anne will
follow up with Michelle Seipp, Lafayette Library Director, and report back to the Board.

9. Director's Report

A. Statistics

Anne noted that Library circulation transactions for the first four months of 2008 are up
13% over the same period in 2007.

B. Meeting with Space Science Institute

Anne Mojo, Karen Freiter, and Kathy Kelly met with staff of the Space Science Institute
(SSI), including the founder and executive director, the IT director, and the exhibits
manager, to discuss the feasibility of hosting an interactive science exhibit at the
Library.

The group is currently working with the American Library Association (ALA) to determine
the feasibility of developing traveling exhibits to public libraries around the U.S. they
receive funding for their traveling exhibits from corporations, foundations, and the
federal government.

As a pilot project, they would like to place a small-scale exhibit at the Louisville Public
Library, probably this fall. Library staff was very supportive of the project and will work
with SSI to establish this pilot project.

Update on Library Task Force
The joint task force has not met. To prepare for the next task force meeting, Louisville
members of the task force met on May 2, 2008 to discuss the document prepared by
Anne that outlines a process and timeline for establishing a library district between
Louisville and Superior.
