Historical Commission
Minutes
Nov. 2, 2016
Page 3
Bridget reported that the HPC approved funding of up to $6000 from the Historic
Preservation Fund to conduct a Historic Structure Assessment on each of the three
main buildings on the Museum campus. All of the buildings are considered to now
be commercial buildings, which qualifies them for higher levels of funding. At this
point, the City requested bids from architects that came in last week and now the
City is in the process of selecting which bid to go with. When the process is
complete, the Commission and City staff will know what the highest priorities that
need attention are.
E. Budget update for Museum capital funding request and anticipation of a possible
RFP for consultant services:
The $49,000 is still in the City's proposed budget that will be voted on soon. This
funding is for an architect to come and make a conceptual drawing for the
proposed new building on the Museum campus.
VIII. Discussion/Direction — Establishment of HPC/Historical Commission Joint Subcommittee:
The Commission confirmed Dan and Paula as representatives to the HPC/Historical
Commission joint Subcommittee.
IX. Chairperson's Report:
It was reported that Chair Dan Mellish relayed that the Commission should encourage
interested residents to apply to be on the Commission.
X. Discussion/Direction/Action: Pioneer Award (to be presented January 2016:
A. Pioneer Award selection:
The Commission voted to select Joe Madonna as the recipient of the Pioneer Award
due to his longtime service and support to the Louisville community over many
years.
B. Confirmation of Paula Elrod to present the award again this year and to help write
the Pioneer Award piece based on this recipient for the next Louisville Historian:
Paula confirmed that she will present the award at the Chamber of Commerce
banquet in January and will prepare the article again this year.
XI. Additional items of common interest with the Historic Preservation Commission: reports
from HPC liaison (Lynda Haley) and/or from HC liaisons to HPC (Paula Elrod and Julie
VanLaanen):
Julie VanLaanen gave an update. She reported that the HPC voted for the members for the
joint subcommittee.
XII. Commission comments & discussion items for next meeting: None
XIII. Close meeting & adjourn: The LHC meeting adjourned at 8:07 pm. Next meeting is
scheduled for January 4, 2017.
