CITY OF LOUISVILLE <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />RESOLUTION No. 2 <br />SERIES 2008 <br />A RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING THE CITY COUNCIL PLACE A QUESTION ON <br />THE 2008 BALLOT REGARDING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A 1/8% SALES TAX <br />DEDICATED TO HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />WHEREAS, the City Council is considering placing a question on the 2008 ballot <br />regarding a 1/8% sales tax to fund historic preservation; and <br />WHEREAS, a 1/8% sales tax would raise approximately $340,000 annually; and <br />WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission has researched incentives for historic <br />preservation and would recommend that such money could be spent on a variety of programs <br />including, but not limited to, the following: <br />• Buying conservation easements on historic properties; <br />• Funding grants for the rehabilitation of historic properties; <br />• Funding aloes-interest loan program for the rehabilitation of historic properties; <br />• Completing historic surveys for all buildings in Louisville over 50 years old; <br />• Funding property tax rebates for landmarked properties; <br />• Funding sales tax rebates for businesses located in landmariced properties; <br />• Funding sales tax rebates on the purchase of building materials for the <br />rehabilitation of historic properties; <br />• Funding building permit fee rebates for the rehabilitation of historic properties; <br />• Buying historic properties to be rehabilitated and sold with conservation easements; <br />• Funding for a historic plaque/marker program; <br />• Funding apublic/private foundation for historic preservation; and <br />WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission feels programs such as these would <br />be a great benefit to the community by encouraging the preservation of our heritage and <br />character. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION <br />COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LOUISVILLE, COLORADO: <br />The Historic Preservation Commission strongly encourages the City Council to place a <br />question on the 2008 ballot asking the esters to approve a 1/8% sales tax dedicated to historic <br />preservation projects and programs. <br />PASSED AND ADOPTED this 21St day of April, 2008 <br />By: <br />Heather Lewis, Chair <br />Historic Preservation Commission <br />Attest: <br />Michael Koertje, Secretary <br />Historic Preservation Commission <br />
