FACILITIES CHECKLIST - BASIC <br />General <br />1. Meet current local safety and fire codes. <br />2. Ensure accessibility to all members of the community, conforming to ADA standards15. <br />3. Seek the professional expertise of a library planner and/or library architect for any new <br />construction or major remodeling. <br />4. Dedicate expenditures for capital improvements and facility maintenance. <br />5. Develop policies relating to effective public use of facilities, including a meeting room policy. <br />Exterior <br />6. Install signs in the community that direct people to the library. <br />7. Provide a well -lit exterior with signage that clearly identifies the building from the street. <br />8. Prominently post hours of operation outside the library. <br />9. Maintain sufficient, well -lit parking located near or adjacent to the facility. <br />10. Provide a convenient, safe book return location(s) during the hours the library is closed. <br />Interior <br />11. Provide a well-designed interior that encourages self-directed use of the library. <br />12. Offer adequate programming and space to fulfill the library's stated mission and goals. Examples of <br />space include: <br />a) Storytime <br />b) Study <br />c) Quiet <br />d) Public meeting <br />e) Programming <br />f) Accessing and utilizing materials <br />g) Public computing <br />h) Space to create individual content and projects <br />13. Maintain separate areas for staff workspace(s) and breaks. <br />14. Provide storage space. <br />15.
