Historic Preservation Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />April 17, 2017 <br />Page 2 of 14 <br />• Jefferson Place Survey <br />• Craftsman style <br />Architectural Significance - Represents a built environment of a group of people in an era of <br />history that is culturally significant to Louisville. <br />• The structures at 720 and 722 Pine Street are both good example of a Craftsman style <br />houses in early 20th century Louisville. <br />Social Significance - Exemplifies cultural, political, economic, or social heritage of the <br />community. <br />• The structures at 720 and 722 Pine Street are significant for their association with <br />European (Austrian) immigrant coal -mining families who flocked to Colorado's coal <br />mining communities in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in search of <br />economic opportunities they could not find in their own countries. <br />Staff Recommendations: <br />Staff finds the properties at 720 and 722 Pine are e <br />for the cost of a Historic Structure Assessment. <br />finding of probable cause. <br />Commission Questions of Staff. I completely agree with <br />Staff's recommendation that there is architectural and social significance. We should move <br />forward with $900 each so that these could both potentially be Iandmarked. <br />Fahey says I agree. They both warrant Iandmarking and it is exciting to see someone purchase <br />something and want to maintain and keep it. <br />Dickinson says I walk by these houses every day. I think they should be landmarked. <br />Chuck Thomas makes a motion to find probable cause to believe the structures at 720 and <br />722 Pine Street may be eligible for landmarking under the criteria in section 15.36.050 of the <br />Louisville Municipal Code based on architectural integrity and social history, seconded by <br />Fahey.
