SUBJECT: POLICE MASTER PLAN WITH COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS <br />DATE: MAY 9, 2017 <br />PAGE 12 OF 17 <br />FPPA provides Police Officers with two types of disability: Occupational Disability and <br />Total Disability. Occupational Disability means a member is unable to perform their <br />assigned duties due to a medical condition that is expected to last at least 1 year. Within <br />this Disability Category there are two sub -categories: Temporary Occupational Disability <br />and Permanent Occupational Disability. Total Disability means the members is unable <br />to perform any substantial gainful activity due to a medically determined physical or <br />mental impairment that may be expected to result in death or that has lasted or is <br />expected to last at least 1 year. <br />The Temporary Occupational Disability benefit is 40% of the member's base salary. <br />The Permanent Occupational Disability is 50% of the member's base salary and the <br />Total Disability benefit is 70% of the member's base salary. For additional information <br />please refer to the Statewide Death & Disability Plan attachment. <br />The cost of this option can vary depending on how the City wishes to structure the cost <br />of this benefit. Some entities have the member pay the entire 2.7% contribution rate <br />while others split the contribution rate equally at 1.35% each. The City pays the full <br />premium for this coverage for all employees. This benefit provides employees with 2.5 <br />times the employee's annual salary up to a maximum of $300,000. <br />The City also provides two disability plans: a Short -Term disability (STD) plan and a <br />Long-term Disability (LTD) Plan. The City pays the full premium for both of these plans. <br />The STD plan provides 67% of the employee's weekly earning, up to a maximum of <br />$950 per week. The LTD plan provides 60% of the employee's monthly earnings, up to <br />a maximum of $7,000 per month. Both of these plans are off -set by any Social Security <br />Disability Benefits.
